Iac

I took the IAC off of my 5.8 1995 f150 4x4 because when it is cold out it is hard to start and runs real rough at first. After it stumbles for awhile, it revs up and runs fine. The IAC looked clean to me for a truck with 167,000 miles on it. Could it still be this or what else should I check? The check engine light is not on. Thanks,

I was talking with a mechanic who said that the aic isnt worth cleaning..its better to just replace it. I dont think they cost that much money so you might want to try that.

My truck was doing the same thing as yours and I had the IAC changed last week and what an improvment!!!! Starts and has the fast idle like it used to. Let it sit in the garage from Sat nite till Tues morning (6AM) and started fine! The temp outside was a -15
Started like it was new!

max1,

Did you clean it? Or just reinstall it? Cleaning it with TB cleaner will help loosen it up so it doesn't stick.

Black Dawg,

Your mechanic is absolutely correct. If you are paying upwards of $60.00/hour you are better off having them install a new one. Paying a shop to let it sit in a bath for 1 hour is expensive.

I took it off and sprayed it out good with TB cleaner but it sure didn't look very dirty to me. I went ahead and ordered a new one from Ford this am. I will put it on soon and let you know if that was the problem. This morning, I started it with the remote starter, and it just barely stayed running until I went out and gave it a little gas, then it ran fine.

Mine's a '99. Tried unsuccessfully to get one online. Ended up paying the dealer $80. Easy change out. Cleaned old one after removal and will keep it for next time.
