Radiator Upgrade

I got my new flex-a-lite 270 electric fans this week and they're just waiting to be installed. Today I went out to size up the install to get ready and I never paid attention to this before but I have the 1" radiator.

My truck a '98 with 4.6 has 48k on the dial. Class III tow package. I think I should go up to the 2 row 2" and change the hoses while I'm in there. Whaddya think?

After market 2 row radiators at the local auto stores run $218 for a GDI and $225 for a Go/Dan. Are these junk and will I be putting good money after bad or should I shell the extra money and go OEM?

We get over 100 days of 100* heat here. I have noticed when towing or in stop and go traffic the temp gauge goes up.

Gee wiz it looks like you dont get any response if your not a lightning board person, heh.

Well so far I have found the 2" at radiator.com for $190 including free shipping/no sales tax, lifetime warranty. It's supposed to be OEM equivalent replacement, Vistion brand.

I think I'm gonna go for it and change my upper and lower radiator hoses too. My truck is 5 years old now so it can't hurt, I figure.

I want to do the R & R at the same time as when I install my flexalite fans so it's all done.

I had a 98 with the 4.6 and tow package. I also had a big fat radiator from the factory. Didn't measure it, had no reason to.
Very good truck, had it for 60 k miles, never a problem with it.

If you have an auto tranny also consider installing a stacked plate tranny cooler. It will greatly extend the life of your tranny and take some load off your radiator. Let us know how the fan install goes.
