Spark Plugs question

I have a 1997 5.4 with 69900 miles on it and it runs great. The plugs have never been changed and was wondering what the normal time should be for changing these out.

I'm kinda paranoid about having them changed then having one get blown out cause they were not torched down right. What should I expect to pay someone to change these out?

well FORD says that plugs will last about 100,000 miles but ive seen some plugs at 10,000 miles and they were bad. I have 52,000 on my 4.6 and i have the originals and seem to be diong fine. I will probley replace them within a year or so. I got a quote for 180 dollars to replace my plugs. I dont know but Id rather do it my self but its almost impossible for a shadetree like me to change plugs in a 4.6

I have a 99 Expy 5.4L engine with 106000 miles on the original spark plugs. I hesitate to change the plugs after hearing about the spark plug blown out problem.

What Ford tells me about the spark plug blow out, and this may or may not be fact ????? is that as long as they are torqued properly they should be ok. Now, since some have blown out with factory plugs, this must mean that some of the factory techs, don't torque them properly, though I'm sure no one would really say that. I just had both head gaskets replaced on my 99 5.4, (the infamous right head oil leak), so while the heads were on the bench the plug torque was checked. Since there are only 23000 on the truck, replacement didn't seem necessary. They apparently all checked out ok, so I'm cautiously optomistic about the future of this truck. At least the heads aren't leaking.
