1st "4x4" Problem in My 02

Forgive me for posting this here, but all you smart guys hang out here.

I don't know if this is something major, I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

My 02 F150 has 13,000 miles on it, and has run flawlessly up until now.
I was visiting my mom during a bad blizzard, and as I was leaving, I let the truck warm up for a couple of minutes, then I selected 4-high while still in park.
Everything good up till this point.

So I'm driving along, and as soon as I hit some major streets where the snow had been plowed, I switched from 4-high, back to 2 wheel drive on the fly.
This is where the problem began, nothing happened! It was like the switch was dead, because the 4x4 indicator light was still on the dash, and the truck remained in 4-high.

I pulled over at the next parking lot, shut the truck off, and restarted.
I then put the truck back in 2 high, but nothing happened. The 4x4 dial was on 2Wd, but the truck was still engaged in 4-high.

After about 2 minutes, I heard a loud clunk, and it finally went back to 2 wheel drive, and the light went off. This was quite the delayed response.

Do I have something serious going on here? Is this a symptom of bad things to come? Any help is appreciated! I still have loads of warranty remaining, so I'm not worried about that, I just want to nip this in the bud before it turns into something worse.

Thanks
Habibi

Nope this jsut happens when you dont use your 4wd frequently ......mine did it but now i just switch it in 4wd sometimes when going through town...as long as its under 55 it wont hurt to switch in and keeps everything lubed..just use it a litle more often and it will go away!!
