Question What is normal engine temp?

Hey, I just registered here, and I have a 94 F-150 XLT with a 302 V8, and I just installed a temp gauge, and I'm wondering what is normal engine temperature? I think mine might be running a little cold.

I'm gonna take a guess and assume that it's fuel injected?? If so, normal is going to be (and this is a guess also, but a safe one) 200 +- 5. My '91 mustang, and all fuel injected V8's from Ford as far as I know, came with a thermostat around the 192-195 range. I have a mustang race car (take a look at my gallery) and I run a 195 thermostat in it. I know on the mustangs, the computer stays in a closed loop operation until the water is above 160 or better, which means the choke is still on to put it very simply. Personally, I would consider anything under 180 too cold.

Try changing the thermostat. Check the one you remove to see what temp it is. The temp should be stamped into the thermostat. I doubt that it's a 150 degree 'stat. More than likely it's the correct temp but not functioning properly.

Good luck.

That's true. IF you have a cooling system that's efficient enough and a thermostat stuck open, it will run too cool. Go with a 190 (or what ever's close) if you have to replace it. I'm saying you need a new one regardless. Seems like you have a good cooling system so if you went with say a 180 thermo, it would probably run around 175. Get the 190 or even 195 will not hurt a thing.

Galaxy,

With a 192* thermostat, at what temperture would a stock fan clutch engage? I installed electric with the the fans set to come on at 202* and 212* ...
