Engine dies without warning

Hey Y'all:

Help me if you can. Just bought a sweet '86 F-150 Supercab with just 42K on it. After a week's driving it has started to shut off on me. The engine dies with no warning. Usually I can restart it with no problem. Replaced the fuel filter and ran Drygas thru it because it had been sitting for a few months prior to me buying it. I suspect either the ICM or pickup in the distributor, but I's like some input before I get out my goose hunting license.

Thanks.
Pat

Check all the wiring for a loose connection. When it dies does anything else go out at the same time. Radio, fan???

This problem is intermittent

Engine dies, all else normal. It is as if somebody hit a kill switch on the engine. No hesitation, no surge, no warning, engine just quits running. Hit the starter and it usually fires right back up. I can't see any pattern that would indicate a particular set of parameters.

Wow!! Two neighbors with the same truck type and the same fuel-pump problem!!! What are the odds of THAT?

Smile Problem located, corrected

Problem found! The Ignition Control Module was the culprit. After replaceing it the truck fires like a new one and no longer dies on a whim.

I love my truck!
