Question Check Engine Light (misfire on 8)

I hope yall can give me a hand with this. I started my truck up and it made a "misfire" sound and the check engine light came on. I drove, because I had too, for about 30 minutes and the misfire sound cleared up. I took the truck to Autozone the next day and i got the code stating a misfire on number 8. I replaced my sparks (118,000 miles) and the truck is running like a champ. The check engine light is still on, however. I took it back to Autozone and they say it is still giving the same code.

I am wondering if somehow I need to reset this or if I can reset this or what to do!? I hope you can help me, thanks guys.

Unhook the neg side of the battery, then turn on your headlights and wait 5 min or more ( jsut long enought o have a smoke and a beer ).

This will reset the PCM.

Turn off your lights hook up the neg side of the battery, and start the truck. The SEL should be off now ( if the plugs were the cause of the misfire ).

Let it idle for 5 min ( you will hear the motor "surge" during this, it is normal ) then drive it like you mean it for 15 min, varrying on and off highway I have read is best. ( and as long as you go over 48 mph the closed loop process will have fully completed and all checks should have been made to see if the CEL comes back on ).

Read through the chip forum on the re-train driving, it will explain the drive it like you mean it process. This starts out the re-learn process on the right foot. The total retrain is 200 miles of driving if memeory serves me correctly.

If your CEL is still constant on, search on P0301 or P0302 there is a post where I put in the Ford Service manual excerpt for this code, that shows the list of stuff to check for a misfire, so the cause might not have been the plug itself.

It could have been clogged EGR ports on the lower intake manifold, or any number of things..

God luck, hope it goes out and stays out.
