best gas
Hi Jason
Hope your getting useful info. See what you started.
Bikenut....know what you mean. I suspect we'll continue to get same Ca. additives...because when they dropped 92 to 91oct...same thing happened here.
Last i heard..."MTBE" was banned from gas stations in/around Lake Tahoe. Really nasty/bad stuff..enviromentally...when mixed with water...thats whats really bad. Geez..a real mess.
MTBE was cheaper to produce than ethanol. etc etc....Ca. said OK were going to ethanol...that was put on temporary hold...because of all the problems that immediately surfaced. However...i do believe Ca. will totally ban "MTBE" in the not to distant future?
If its really that bad, it should be banned world wide. Regardless of what we think about it. Time will tell? JMO!
Subnet...your engine is designed to run on 87oct. The PCM is progammed for that. Ck. out the computer bd.
Good luck....OT

I will have to check on the cut off date, but MTBE IS being banned as we speak. Thats true, it is a good thing to get rid of, it makes me cringe to hear about such a beautiful place as Tahoe being affected
"Honestly, I know for a FACT, that here in the L.A. Basin, the refineries pump to terminals and into tanks at those terminals. Well, the fuel gets mixed as you would expect. The way a gasoline is branded is by its additive which is added as the fuel is loaded onto the delivery truck. (i.e. Techron is added to the fuel that goes to Chevron Stations). ALL refineries are required to meet the minimum octane rating (and alot of other specs.) for the fuel they are producing so a tank of premium is always going to be a minimum of 91 octane (R+M/2)."
bikenut, you are correct! I'm a gas hauler, it's all the same ole stuff respectively, just the little shot {app. 1 gal. of additive per 9000 gals of gas} of additive and they call it theirs.
as for plus/midgrade whatever you want to call it, if the terminal does not have a blinder or it's inop, we blend it. 65% reg and 35% prem and you get 89 octane/ plus /midgrade .... tada

WOW!!! Thanks all! This has been the most insightful info I've ever received on this sight. Thank you all very much....I have a couple of different ideas to work with now.
Thanks again
