You didn't mention before your mother-in-law was with you. Since that is the case it wasn't STUPID at all, you could have had a little more fun while you were at 75mph and just kind of SCREAMED

"Holy Shi*, HOLD on"

I will agree that 4WD is better for traction in snow and mud. Not so much with ice, black ice. For take off traction in ice and black ice then of course yes, as far as turing corners etc while moving then no real advantage its just plain ol' slipper even for front whell drive.

I live in New Hampshire and we got alot of snow right now. I only have a 2WD 3.55 L/S and it does great, put about 150lbs in the bed for extra traction. I don't pretend for a minute that a 4WD would not be better just I don't need it. If you KNOW how to drive in this type of weather you can do just fine with 2WD, if its something you do rarely then 4WD is the way to go.

If I was the off-road type I would have bought a 4WD, in my case I am not and could not justify the added cost, and not to mention one more thing to have "possible" problems with once paid-off and/or out of warranty. I neither knock someone for owning a 4WD, if thats what "they" want then great, and it's always nice knowing someone with a 4WD in the slight chance I ever did get stuck with my 2WD.

It's really all about driving technique, and experience, if you have the experience you will do just fine with a 2WD, you'll do better with a 4WD, but all the same just fine with a 2WD.

Habibi,

Just ignore Joe. Go and drive your truck some more till you are sure of the answer. But stay off the 401!

Own both 2wd and 4wd

If I drive on dirt roads at 65 mph, I don't see too many problems driving in slop at 75 mph!

Seriously, I own a 2wd and a 4WD and will never buy another 2wd. I have gotten stuck in parking lots with the 2wd, I even put on chains for a week one time just so I could get around town. This was in Montana with 2 feet of snow and 400 pounds of sand in the back.

One time with 2wd , I parked in a 15 minute parking zone for 10 minutes and got stuck on a 1 foot square patch of ice. I backed into the spot, with a car behind me, so I could only go forward. But with one tire on this tiny patch of ice (on an incline), I couldn't go anywhere. With 4wd, it would have been a piece of cake. I had to have a friend give me a 1' push to get me out. Was I ever pissed!

Even with the 4wd, in rain or snow I can hardly get this truck going without using 4wd - the back just wants to spin. But with 4wd engaged, I can plow through snowbanks, smiling all the way!
