First highway trip MPG!

I just bought a 99 f150 with 58000 miles. What a beaut! It runs perfect... and gets decent mileage too I think. i was afraid it would be really bad. I got close to 20 on the highway. I rarely touched the pedal the whole way, using the cruise control buttons to set my speed. Is 20 above the norm or about right? I think thats probably pretty good for this truck. Oh.. i was going no faster than 80 also, so it was around 2000-2200 rpms the entire way. Thought id share!

Andrew

Can you give a little more info please

Hello,

That is still pretty good. I have a F150 4X4 5.4L and only get around 13. Can you tell me more about your truck: motor, 4x4 ?

Thanks Steve

18mpg is still better than i'll ever see on the highway. The best I'd gotten was 16.5 mostly 75mph no A/C. But I have 4x4 ORP, 5.4l, and 3.73 gears so I don't expect much. Usually I get 15mpg of mostly highway cruising, but at higher speeds.

2002 F150 Supercab, with 5.4, and 4x4, 3.55 LS (13,000 miles)
Chip, intake, and cat back.

I get 12-13 in city, and 16. something on highway

(city MPG has gotten worse since the cold weather and snow came, as Ive been using the 4x4 quite a bit more)

It aint' no daisy.

Yep, my Expy gets between 18 and 19 on the hwy. without wind. Get the wind hitting me in the face and I drop to 16-17 quick.

my mileage

I bought my 99 F-150 4.6L, 50K a couple of months ago and get about 13 MPG with about 100 miles of highway. I recently went to AZ and got roughly 14.5-15 MPG. I just got a new trans due to some type of failure in it(it "hopped" during the 1st to 2nd shift) so maybe it will improve. I also plan on getting a new intake so we will see if that helps(Iceman intake BTW)

98 4.6 105K. Never got more than 17mpg from day 1, new purchase. 15-16.5mpg is typical mpg for my truck.

I don't really check my mileage much, but about 2 months after I had bought my truck I drove to Louisiana and got 22MPG with cruise set at about 70mph the whole way.

See Sig for details on truck options.

Just did a trip to Denver and back from Santa Barbara. Best mileage 19.3 MPG between Durango, CO and Seligman, AZ. Mostly flat two lane Indian reservation highways doing 65.

And I had a good load - me and 300 - 400 lbs of luggage PLUS 350 lbs of sand over the rear axle for traction in snow/ice. Sand did help traction, don't think it affected mileage much on long flat highway stretches on cruise control.

Worst hwy mileage in the 14's, doing 80 MPH uphill on I-15 in Southern Utah into a very stiff wind.

5.4L '01 SCab XLT 4x2 with 3.55 LSD

'98 Regular cab, 4x4 ORP, 3.55 gears. I get 16.5-17 MPG combined city/highway, probably 20%/80% split.
90k miles, no mods other than a K&N filter.
