infamous front end squeak
hey guys im sure this is in here somewhere just couldnt find it. i have a 97 f150 4.6 4x4 sc and the front end squeaks to the high heavens. i got underneath it today and found only one grease fitting which i greased and made no difference. is there something im missing or is there something in need of replacement. thanks ahead for all coments and help.
On some of the rubber boots you can pull the boot off the joint enough to get a grease needle under the boot. That way you don't have to punch a hole in the boot which usually ends up leaking. Silicone may hold it though. Personally I don't trust silicone for much.
See my tierod greasing how-to for more info although it's unlikely it's your tierods squeaking. Perhaps a balljoint is on the way out?

It might help if you crawl under the truck while parked on level ground and have a buddy or two push/pull on the front end to make it squeak and you can put your ear to some of the suspension components. Could be A-arm bushings too.

I wouldn't say the ball joint is "on the way out". My ball joints started squeaking at about 42k miles. I did the old trick with the needle & my grease gun. I didn't even seal the holes back up. I greased them 3 time at about 5,000 miles apart. I haven't touched them in over 50k miles and they are still tight and squeak free.
