I think it's 6 quarts, but do you have an owners manual? It should tell the capacity. It's usually towards the back of the manual.

6 quarts if you change the filter. Approx 5 w/o the filter change.

Why would you change the oil but not the filter?

Was I taught wrong, or doesnt the old oil in that filter just flow right back in and contaminate all the new stuff if you leave it alone?

whenever you change your oil change your filter along with it. Plain and simple. Pour half a quart of oil into the filter and pour the remaining 5 1/2 qts into the motor. Run for a few mins, then check level. SHould be about right

I know you said today but I thought I would tell you anyway. Just call your local Autozone, they have all the oil capacity info on hand along with alot of other stuff on engine specs.

A word to the wise, always check the filter base on the block to ensure its clean! changed my wife's oil and filter 2 weeks ago, in a hurry, and didn't notice the gasket from the old filter had stuck to the block. Installed the new filter and pumped out 2 quarts of new oil before I could shut off the engine. Never had a problem before in 35 years of doing it myself. Live and learn!

6.5 qrts to fill to max capacity.

6 qrts without filter change.

You don't need to fill the filter before re-install. Some people do it. I don't. Nither does my mechanic. You just drop the old oil, drop the old filter, put new filter on, then fill 6 qrts. let run at idle for few minutes, fill as needed past that point. Make sure you apply a thin layer of oil to the gasket to insure a snug fit.

Talking Thanks, all!

Well, got the oil change done...came out good, except for the POOR service at Partsource. They were horrible! There is two filters available for the '94 5.8...A longer one, and a shorter one....I told my Mom to get the SAME serial as the one i read her over the phone while she was at partsource...I read the serial right from the filter. But according to Partsource, that filter didnt exist. Oh, I imagined it. Hmmm... So they gave her one, and it was the wrong one. Good ol Murphy's law for ya...So we bring it back, and the guys like i cant take that..(no big deal, it's 5 bucks)
So i looked bummed, cuz now im stuck with a bum filter, so the guys like "i cant sell that to a customer, it's of no damn use to me...He was a real smartass about it...He's like it';s not my fault you got the wrong one...Maybe you should learn your stuff first"...That was it...I was like who the HELL said I was complaining? Inever said anything! It's five bucks, no big deal! He's like...well i own the store, son...I'm like i dont care, i never asked for your life story, and your not my Dad, so dont call me son.I asked for a Fram oil filter, pal. thats it. he responds with "you always talk to your elders that way"? I was about ready to snap...so i did...JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN OIL FILTER!" So he shut up, and gave it to me...I purposely left my member card on the counter, and he called back, "you forgot ur member card, son." I walked over to the counter, and picked it up bent it in half, and threw it at him. (not a nice thing, but given the circumstances)
So I will NEVER ever shop there again. For all those in/around windsor, it is the partsource on howard...seeing as we have two...

Good point suvdrvr! - You got pretty lucky with the double gasket. I worked in an oil change place for a few years in college. Those double gaskets will often hold for about a half hour and then dump your oil on the road while you drive. It never happend on one of my cars (cause I check) but oil change store owners have bought a lot of engines over that one.

1994f150XLT - You should have asked that store owner if the profit on one filter was worth losing your business when you buy brake pads, master cylinders, spark plugs, air filters, motor oil, washer fluid, fan belts, alternators, batteries, and headlights elsewhere.
