need advice

My 97 f-150 "plain jane" stock truck keeps putting out a p0112 code. It says it is low input from the ambient air temp sensor. (it's the little one that is mounted on the airbox tube, not the maf)
When the check engine light goes on, the truck runs awesome because it runs rich. My question is this, can you splice a new female connector on, or will the voltage drop because of the added wire.? I know these electrical parts are pretty sensitive. I don't want to replace the whole wire (tough loom). someone twisted the connector around quite a bit before I bought the truck, and I think broke the internal wire. thanks for any help. sorry so long.

You should not have any problem soldering in a new connector.
I have access to a bunch of wiring looms, let me know if you need that connector.
