Max Torque Per Cubic Inch @ 93 Octane?

Is there a formula for computing this value or is there a known value? Obviously, this includes blown and turbo applications. And, the limiting factor would be pre-ignition and detonation.

I know that variables like the shape of the compustion chamber, timing advance, intake charge temps, etc all go into the equation so the given would be that all variables would be optimized to the full extent. So a simpler way to put it would be: If I could custom build a 4 cycle, gasoline burning, piston engine, what's the maximum amount of torque per cubic inch (or liter) that the engine could produce from 93 octane pump gas without pre-ignition or detonation?

Sounds to me what you are asking is " What is the threshold of clyinder pressure/heat that 93 octane can withstand before breaking down".
You can alter the variables to keep it in a safe range, the question I ask is how much are you willing to spend? just about anything can be done, its always a matter of $$$$$$$$$$$.

Or are you refering to practial limits?, the power doesn't come from the fuel, it comes from the added cylinder pressures. They can be from timing, compression, and forced induction. It's the fuels abilty to withstand the harsher enviroment without breaking down and auto-igniting, that allows for those changes that make the power.
I'm sure in you serch "octane" with a serch engine, you'll get some answers., then you'll need to know engine dynamics such as what a change in compression ratio will raise the charge temp to, or a timing change will effect cylinder pressure and temp.

You have a "Bell" blower, Jim Bell is a good place to start. He enjoys talking, and answering "intelligent" questions. Be ready to write down what he has to say, he can talk fast.
