Question Better 4.2 Performance

My 98 4.2 moves my truck pretty good even though i have a lift, 33" tires, K&N filter and Flo-Pro exhaust. However, it's not enough. I have 3.08 gears I think. I was looking into a gear swap but it is too expensive. I could possibly swap in another 8.8 axle for less. Do the old explorer axles have the same measurements as an f150's? They came with 4.10's or something. Also, are there any other mods to do to get more oomph? And which brands/types work best?
Thanks guys.

get a chip...should give some of the "oomph" you are looking for.

I second the chip reco. One of the cheaper mods AND it can take advantage of your K&N and exhaust
