For those with a chip...

Is it worth the money for a stock vehicle and did you notice a nice gain in performance?

How much and where did you get it?

Thanks
-Eric

In my opinion, it is DEFINITELY worth the money. I did notice a performance gain after installation. Most chips can retail anywhere from $250 to $350. If you are not interested in putting any other mods in your truck, don't buy it. If you are going to put other mods in your truck, then the chip should be the last thing you put in.

Hey 2001 Edge:

Sorry sir, I cannot agree with you about not getting a chip if no other mods are to be put in. Actually, just a chip alone is worth it. You will get gains.

However, you are right about putting the chip in last if you do want add bolt on mods...highly recommended so you don't have to get a reburn.

I've heard about programming chips now for just a simple mod combo like intake/exhaust! How's that! Cool I think.

I would basically agree with V8KILLAH1 as far as getting a chip.

If you were only going to do ONE mode to your truck then the superchip is the way to go. It will get you the biggest bang for the buck as far as HP and torque. Compared to most other mods with the exception of blowers, superchargers etc the chip will give you the most HP and torque, more then exhaust, more then an air intake, pulleys, electric fans etc.

If like V8KILLAH1 stated you plan on doing different mods then you may want to wait and do the chip last so like he correctly stated you don't have to possibley reburn the chip.

Another good place for information about the chip and what mods you can do before or after the chip is the Superchips forum. Mike is the Superchip distributor and can either answer some of your questions on-line or by contacting him by phone. All his information is in that forum.

Cool

as far as waiting to get the chip last...depends a lot on what mods you do. i have a superchip as well as other bolt-ons. the superchip was my second mod (second to exhaust) and i have never had, nor needed to get my chip reburned. if you plan on doing more than your standard:

intake
exhaust
electric fan
underdrive pulley

then yes...i would wait. but if you do not see yourself doing more than that i don't think it matters. just my .02. good luck.

p.s. chips are definitly worth it on there own. they are amazing little mods. can't believe how much performance they give for how small they are. its really cool

Gentlemen,

I have really heard that your chipc can now be programmed to compensate for the intake and exhaust!

Is this at all possible? If it is, I think it should be done.

Right now, I am only gonna get pulley's. Then I'm gonna get a chip and really stress to the company to consider my basic common bolt on mods and see what they can do to tweak the program to take advantage of the simple bolt ons. It's worth the try and will let everyone know if I have any luck.

But please, if anyone has tried or even has a bestfriend/inside guy who knows the scoops, let me know so I don't waste my breathe trying to make the programmer reason with me.

Do it, do it, do it! I know you can!

A chip is a great buy for the 4.2 , there was a very noticeable improvement with a chip and a k&n with a modified airbox. If you have additional mods you can get the chip reburned.
