instant throttle response

Can anyone suggest one mod that would give me more instaneous throttle when I hit the gas?
Sometimes I feel like I can slam the gas pedal in our V6's but it only inches forward until the RPM's get higher.
I wanna be able to hit my gas pedal at anytime (1k RPM, 2k RPM, etc) and my truck just get up and jump forward.

Cool

many mods will help this. electric fans and a chip would probably be the best. they provide power all the way through the power band unlike many other products. it also depends which chip you have. I would recomend a superchip...your throttle response will drastically improve. Mike Troyer can sell you both...get ahold of him in the computerchip section. he goes by Superchip_distributer. his contact information is in his signature. good luck.

put in a helix power tower or a power aid tb spacer, it will take ALL the lag out of your truck. Only 90 bux to and easy bolt on.

instant jump forward power at any time? if you are running a 5-speed, just be at about 5k and tap the gas. in first you can pretty much jump any time, 2nd jumps pretty good all the time. but dont expect the truck to jump forward goin 70mph down the interstate.

well, from what I've heard in the past, the TB spacers weren't as effective on our 4.2's like they are for the V8's. Thanks for the tip though.
Also, so porting your TB won't give me this much needed perfromance gain? You guys really reccomend the chip as the main contributor?

Tell me, I still haven't installed my tach, nor do I have a chip:
can anyone tell me about how many RPM's am I at when I go 45mph in 2nd gear? and that's punching it from a stop. It always makes me nervous, but I cannot seem to hear our 4.2's whining out, like its ok to stomp it like this. Then I hit 3rd gear all the way up to about 60-65mph. Am I anywhere near the redline (5kRPM's is redline right)????

Lighten your Flywheel

V8KILLAH1:

If you want the most instantaneous response from the throttle. I believe you need to change your flywheel to something lighter. Maybe aluminum or other lighter metals. I dont know if anyone makes it for the 4.2, but someone here should know.

Remember though, if you change the flywheel, the drivability of the truck from a dead stop may be affected and might not give much improvement to performance.

so I'll ask again, can anyone with the TACH, tell me, about what RPM am I in when I'm stomping it in 2nd gear hitting 45MPH before shifting and going into 3rd hitting 65MPH.

About what RPM did I peak at before shifting?

I am so nervous that I'm killing my little V8 killer....

I'll take a look tomorrow when I drive into work for you. Hoever I will tell you a few things. I won't ever bring my truck near 5,00 rpms, I would like to keep it running not try to blow it up. I rarely get it to 4,000. Second it's a rolling brick powered by a V6. Your already starting in last place. I my opinion if you want to race around buy a car or if you insist on a truck, save your money and buy a lightning.

Nope sorry, I won't buy a car, and two, I don't need a Lightning at this point. Thanks for the tip though...........

However, I finally opened up my brain, and a light went off.....digital ODOMETER!

I can't believe I have been this ignorant for the past three months. How many discussions have there been with this trick? And all along it never clicked in my head that everyone was talking about the little screen under the MPH's that tell you how many miles were on our trucks!!! DUH!!!

I did it finally this weekend. And I drove it just how I usually do. I gotta say that I ain't stompin at all. Everytime I thought I was "gettin-on-it", I was actually just driving midly aggressive! Never even hit more than 3500 Rpm's, not even once.

I truly love my 4.2L 100 times more now. I realized that my truck can take more. I can't imagine opening her up to 4000 RPMs (at least) in third. I would be in the 70mph's at that time!

I love my V6, that's all I can say

LBC150, please no bashing even though I deserve it for my blindness/dumbness!

For those of us "newbies, could someone explain how to use the odometer as a tach? Can you leave it in a "tach" mode while you drive? I 've read somewhere that you can use the odometer screen to read codes, but never heard of a tach function. Thanks!

I guess I'l go ahead and answer this one:

sounds like you know how to get in the "test" mode already. basically hold your odometer button down, stick in the keys and turn to the "on" position, but don't crank it up yet. Once you're in test mode, release the button, and go ahead and crank the truck up. You should still be in "test" mode. Then toggle thru the different readings pushing the odometer button until you get to tach. then that's it. You'll stay in "test" mode until you turn off your engine. IT'S A WONDEFUL EXPERIENCE!!!

unfortunately, I read somewhere that it's not super accurate, but hey good enough for me until I install my 2 5/16" autogage/auto meter Tach!
