I just found out my truck has another TSB out for it - anyone know what Recall 98R04 is? Something about the PCV system. I think I'm starting to smell anitfreeze - I'll have to investigate it more in detail soon - its been raining for two day straight.

Recall 98R04 is an extension of recall 97S96. It's related to throttle body icing in Northern states. It seems not all owners were notified of the original recall. If you're in, KY you shouldn't worry about this one. The notices were only sent out for vehicles registered in Northern states.
The smell of coolant is a different matter. If your overflow tank is losing coolant, get it in for service asap before it makes its way into the oil. If you can smell it but you're not losing any, then it sound like a leaking heater core.

I haven't seen any on the ground, and I have checked the oil for frothy-ness....but I haven't seen any. Like I said above, its been raining for going on the third day, so I haven't had a chance to get out and work on it.

I had that problem with my 97. It was winter I was driving to work then went to get off the off-ramp and when I applied the brakes the truck just kept going. I just about sh*t. I was able to get it slowed down, no wreak or anything, but it was reving as high as could be. I get it to work and leave it in drive then shut it off. Called Ford they said not sure what it was so they said don't start it and they would send a wreaker to come get it.
The wreaker gets here and tells me I have to start it so he can get to it. I figure oh well if its going to do damage not my problem. I started it no problem. It was warmer so it thawed out.
Took me 3 weeks with Ford and a flight recorder to finally get it repaired. They said they had to have proof first with the flight recorder before they could order the part.
SO, to anyone that may have that problem, TAKE IT IN and get it repaired. I was very very lucky there was no ice on the road or I may not be here today to write this.

01 XLT Sport,
I read your story about that some time ago. Any Ford dealer that sells a 4.2L without having the PCV system modified to control throttle body icing is subject to an $1100.00 fine. It states this in the TSB.
