Gears and tires
I'm looking to start w/ the tires and wheels, and I need some advice on what tire/gear ratio would work the best.
I really like the BFG 285/70R16 Mud Terrians, but I was thinking of going to 305/70R16 or maybe the same size but w/ the Baja claws. I want to make sure that I get the best balance to help with the power increase at the lower end. I figure if I change my gear ratio to 1:3:55 from 1:3:08, I would see enough of a power increase to balance out the difference of the larger tires.
I'm definitely set at starting w/ the tires and wheels and working from the rear end to the front. Can anyone help me out?
I might buy a superchip and then worry about the gears after my factory warranty runs out next November, but after all the mods, I don't think what the warranty covers really matters to me anymore. What I really want is to add all the mods and then add the chip at the end so I wouldn't have to reformat after every mod I make.
What do you think Tallywacker? WrongdayJ? XLTSport??
Check the pics.......

what's your stock tire size?
If your going to either of those I would recommend 4.10's. 3.08's on stock 29/30" tires is not a good thing for the 4.2. You should have 3.55's on 29/30" tires to match the 4.2's powerband for everyday driving.
With the first size mentioned I'd say 3.73's and with the second size mentioned I'd say 3.90's or 4.10's.
Good rule of thumb for ideal gear size (economy and performance) is .12 X Tire Diameter
For example, 30" tires should have 3.55's because .12 x 30 = 3.6. The closest gear would be 3.55.

Stock tire size is 255/70R16. I'm thinking I'll end up going the 305 route with shaving the fenders a bit with the gears in the 3.9 range. I can't express how helpful the whole website has been. I just finished acetoning my emblems last night, and it looks great. By this time next year, I should have the tires, wheels, chip, headers, and the new gears. I'll put updates and pictures out as I complete each piece. Thanx for all the help.

Well right now Motive makes the 3.90 gears. You can get them for new on ebay.
Search on www.ebaymotors.com for "8.8"
You will see a result there with "Motive 8.8 Gear" or something like that... "Buy it Now" for $149.99
