Exclamation Talley here it is: TB spacer results!

I told you and Wrongday that I would get back to you on the TB spacer results. If you can recall I did the port/polishing and half-shafting of the TB, and that's where the subject of the TB spacer poped up. Most believe it is a useless mod, but like I said I would stay bias then give you guys the results after testing it. Here are the results: After already having it for over a year I wouldn't know what to expect when having it out after the port/polishing mod of the TB. First was to test the new port/polishing mod with the spacer in. I drove around for about a month or two, and had about the same amount of performance prior to the port/polishing. Maybe a little gain at top-end but nothing too noticeable. I took the truck for a couple runs to try and get a average 0-60 time. I had a few runs in the low 9's, and a best of about a 9 flat. Next it was time to take the spacer out. After taking it out I noticed that performance seemed about the same as before. I did notice the difference in the mid-range when cruising at around 45-55. It seemed to me that I may have lost a small amount of power in the mid-range. Of course I could be wrong, but it seemed to me that before I could keep my speed right up at around 50 w/out having to use much gas. With the spacer out it seems that I have to give it a little more gas to maintain that crusing speed. Next it was time to try and get a couple of 0-60 times to see if there was any difference. Again I had a few runs in the mid 9's, but I couldn't (at least not yet) match that best of 9 sec. flat. I figure that the spacer has nothing to do with it, and it's all in the launch, but I still have yet to mach that 9 sec. flat time. I still have the spacer out at the moment, and will try a couple more runs and let you guys know. I really doubt the spacer is doing much of anything, whether it be hurting or helping. But I have to admit I miss the whistle. I don't know why, but it seemed to give my truck character. But hey in the meantime (why the spacer is out), I don't have any of my papers flying away.
So overall, I wouldn't say that the spacer is totally useless. It is a cheap and easy mod to install. If you like the whistle it is defiantly worth it. It may add a small amount of power in the mid-range (most of it being torque). It does make a great paper weight. It may, or may not improve mileage. But most of all, to the ones looking to buy one: Don't expect any large performance gains from them. Good Luck with your trucks!

Well, Keep us posted on the difference.

I really want to get one dyno'ed myself.

btw, peak torque is midrange at 3,300rpm so i suppose it makes the difference at peak torque levels.

Thumbs up

GREAT post!!!

This is good info.

Thanks for taking the time to do the comparison and getting back with the results. . .It's this kind of thing that really helps people sift through the advertising hype and see a real-world experience with and without the mod.

We all gain from this kind of info. . .reminds me of how the 86-93 Mustang guys used to be.

Thanks again, Falcon11!!!
