Msd Ignition
im curious..but im bout to buy a brand new MSD 6AL from a friend for a $100...its a great deal..but is it compatible with my 4.2 2000 F150???....im just curious...im also gonna change my spark plugs with Bosch platinum 4+...BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF WIRES TO GET????...I KNOW THAT I CANT HAVE SOLID CORE...WELL THANKS EVERYONE
The only ignition that is compatible with our trucks is the DIS serious of any manufacturer. To my knowledge that ignition will not work... or without major modifications, it just won't be bolt up.
You should just stick with Ford OEM wires.
As far as the plugs, Copper gives the best performance in these engines, However they must be replaced every 25k miles. But at only $8 a set what's the downfall. Your damn near gonna spend that much on one freakin plug that you mentioned.
I recommend a AWSF 32C for a direct replacement and AWSF 22C for relatively modified engines or in high heat climate's like here in texas. In winter time I suggest running AWSF 42C.
I felt a big improvement when I swapped out my stock platinim alloy plugs that only had 20k when I went to the copper plugs.
btw, Motorcraft makes great plugs!!!
Go for the Copper, If you dislike them, I'll pay you the $10!!! I am a firm believer.

Hey Talley, what plugs would you recommend for my truck w/the mods I have? I live in CA where it's usually about 75-85 in the summer.
I have performance spark plug wires, and I think I can look to get some improvements with some copper spark plugs like you mentioned. Which ones do you think I should go with? Can you also give me a price range for them, and what kind of performance gains will I see. Thanks a lot.

I get mine at O'Riely's. I dont' think autozone carries them. If not, goto a dealership. OEM wires are ~ $50.
IF, and I mean IF I were to go with aftermarket wires... Definately MSD 8.5mm's.

i believe i will keep those wires..and just replace the plugs...the only reason why i even thought bout gettin bosch is b/c a friend already gave 2 for free and all i would have to get is 4 more..thanks though

Thanks Talley, what kind of improvements did you feel after installing the AWSF plugs compared to the stock plugs? You think a place like Pep Boys carries them? I've never seen an O'Rileys here in CA, where should I go to get them? Thanks
You can get them at a dealership.
The difference is pretty darn good in the mid range. I had 20k on my stock plugs when I installed the nitrous... I replaced the plugs to the AWSF 32C before I sprayed but I noticed alot better pull with them in.
I'd say gap em at .040 - .050 for our engines.
