4.2 FIPK or just K&N?
4.2 FIPK or just K&N?
newbie guys, so bear w/ me.
Is the Airaid FIPK sold in the "online store" here worth the extra jack when compared to just the K&N filter?
What am I getting w/ the FIPK that is better etc?
thx
John

Good question-
Talley is right about the MAC being a better piece than the Airaid unit. . .but how much better either of these pieces is compared to the stock airbox mod is quite small. This mod really doesn't give you that much power to begin with, and I don't think that the tiny (if any) improvement they give you over a modded stocker is worth the $100 more you'll pay over the cost of a K&N filter by itself. But the MAC units are pretty good looking sitting under the hood.

Later,
I put a drop in K&N into my stock, unmodified airbox and noticed absolutely no difference in power or mileage over the stock filter. Put on an Airaid and found a nice high rpm (over 3,000) power increase, much racier sound at full throttle. At low throttle the truck sounds and feels like stock.
I think I have seen about a 10 HP difference by installintg the MAC COLD air. If for no other reason, it just looks faster with that long chrome tube under the hood.
It may not be any faster on the track, but it sure looks faster in the pit with the hood raised.

I went with a K&N filter and the poorman FIPK. $50.
Get a new exhaust with the money you save by not getting the full fipk - won't notice that much difference anyways.

Can anyone tell me about the airbox mod they did with the K&N airfilter. I put in the drop in air filter and was able to feel a little more responsiveness when i hit the throttle, my warranty just expired so i was thinking about some more mods, i have the gibson exhaust and air filter only. The chip may be coming next.
