Sparkplug Upgrades

OK Boys and girls I'm going to throw this out here and see who has any real world feedback for me.

It is sparkplug changing time. I am contemplating the virtues of going up to a high performance plug. i.e. Splitfire, Bosch Platinum + etc.

So my questions are who has any experience with an aftermarket so called hihg performance plug.

I am a bit familiar with the Splitfire in a conventional electronic ignition. But the newer HEI ignitions will pretty much put a spark through a nail if it needs to. I see them burn the electrode down to a tiny nub and they keep sparking. So that being said, who has used/seen/recommended a high performance sparkplug.

I can read all the hype and gaurantees in the world. Means nothing to me. I want to hear from actual use. They all say theirs is the best thing since internal combustion. But in reality the ignition systems are pretty darn good these days.

Do they improve A) performance B) mileage C) chmaber cleanleness. O.K. C) is going to be an optional answer as I doubt anyone has had to actually prove that one yet.

I am going to cross post this in Engines as well as other aftermarket if I can figure out how to do that?....

The only OEM replacement or mild performance plugs would be the Motorcraft plugs... whether copper or platinum. Some have good experiences with Bosch 4+ or whatever... but IMHO it is a waste.

As for a true Performance plug:

Denso Iridium IT16's!!!

They only require 7,000 volts to make a spark as compared to 40,000+ volts on normal copper or platinum plugs.

These you WILL see a gain... I put my MONEY on that and IF i'm wrong I WILL eat my words.

Only problem is they cost $14 a piece.

Hey Talleywacker

Talleywacker where is a good place to get those IT-16's? Is it a noticeable difference with them installed? If they actually add more power how much would you say they add? I have Taylor's high performance spark plug wires and I think with a set of high performance plugs I might see some improvements. Would you agree? Thanks.

-Volant intake
-Poweraid TB spacer
-Taylor high performance spark plug wires
-Diablo chip
-Gibson exhaust

NGK decided to make Iridium plugs too, I see them on Ebay all the time. If NGK decided to get into that business, it HAS to be worth something.

As far as an upper for ignition, check out these for what they're worth. My friend (a jet ski racer) uses them on his ski. He said he noticed a big difference, not sure how much of a difference it'd make on an already pretty effcient 4-stroke engine vs. PWV 2-stroke engines.
