this looks like the HP that we've all been dreaming about for our V6s. to equal a V8 without a turbo/supercharger? I'm going to get a powerpack VERY soon. I'll let you know how it goes. I've already got K&N CAI and am getting a chip/computer set this payday. anyone know anything about unplugging the battery for a couple of hours? how well does that work?

I have been looking everywhere for a supercharger for my 02 4.2L V6. I finally found one but I dont know how good a deal it is. The kit is $2100 and adds UP TO 90hp meaning you will most likely get about 75-80hp. Here is some research I did on prices and power gains from Truckperformance.com

High flow intake kit $230 10-15hp/15tq
Pulley $187 8-10hp/10tq
Exhaust (best choice) $350 10-15hp/30tq
headers $450 15-20hp/26tq
Chip $240 10-15hp/20tq

Total $1500 power gains 53-75hp/101tq

As you can see, by adding these parts, you get nearly as much hp for less money. I guess you need to ask yourself if an extra 20hp is worth another $600.

From what I understand, you can't just add up all the HP gains for all the mods to get a total HP gain. Any techs care to explain?

All those gains are off of stock engines. A modified engine is different then a stock engine (obvious). These mods may affect something that was already improved. Then they can't improve it as much.

I have the first turbocharged 4.2 F150. I designed and installed the kit myself. I make about 330rwhp right now. There are 3 other turbo F150 4.2s on the road right now. Come to the site ***********

I hate to be such a jerk, but wouldnt just be easier to buy a truck with a bigger engine?

I have never understood the desire to pump up the econo-motors???

If you want to spend a couple thousand dollars, just trade up to some thing with a bigger power plant.....or am I missing some thing?

I like the clip in your sig, Podunk.

I can only speak for myself when I say that it's about taking what you've got and making it better. Think about how ricers feel when they take they're little 4-bangers and keep up or beat vehicles with big engines. It's one of those "principle" things...

On a more technical side, there is the possibility of pulling the same amount of power out of a smaller engine without the weight or other drawbacks of a bigger engine. Specifically, in the F-150's case, the 5.4 V8s have been known to throw spark plugs... and that's just stock engines; not supercharged. Some engines are more reliable, like Ford's old straight 6's.

In my case, I'd rather drop a couple hundred bucks to get a few more HP out of the truck I have every other payday than drop a couple grand on a bigger engine... which I'll still want to supercharge and modify in any other way possible. :-) He he...

What makes you think a bigger engine is better? The 4.6 is underpowered, and the 5.4 spits plugs. The 4.2 has been pushed to well over 400rwhp without failure by many. Econo motor? Go to another forum.

I shouldn't post on this as this thread should die...

I believe he was implying the 4.6 is underpowered for a V8, which most of the owners who want the power and have driven a 5.4 will say the same thing. It's underpowered in that sense.

Since this was a thread that is now, three years old I'm gonna try and help kill it by starting a new one with some current news (that I know of) on the supercharger and powering issue.
