A superchip and intake would hop up your truck for just a little over $400

Get a Superchip and a K&N (K&N cheaper than an Intake) and shift kit!

ok... here is what you do and you will get GREAT performance.

Superchip - $235 Shipped - 20BHP (real #'s)
K&N Filter w/ Airbox mod - $49.95 - 5-7BHP
29 1/2" Cherry bomb Glasspack w/ 2 exhaust clamps - $20 - 8RWHP (cut stock muffler and bolt this muffler on... available only at PepBoys)
Total: $305
33-38BHP

The sound is decent for the glasspack with a loud low rumble but a little quiter rev. When I had mine, the glasspack by itself add 8RWHP. This is the basic and best bang for your buck mods and will bring your 4.2L V6 from a stock 205BHP to ~240-245BHP. This is my fact and may not be others fact!

well, lately i've been removing my cats and have been dumping just straight headers... just on the weekends tho. and during the week, i have the cats on with it dumping right after the y connection... so I'm pretty used to the loudness... yesterday i added 30" of straight pipe and put my 6" turndown on.... this makes it very quiet to me. i can bolt on any 3 of my choice from loudest to quietest, straight pipe, flowmaster 40 (2 chamber), and then the glasspack.

i bolted on the glasspack and to me it sounds like a stock muffler with a low rumble growl thats real quiet. at pepboys it's only $14.95 so if you don't like it your not out that much money. I don't like my flowmaster 40 and that puts me out $75!!!. I'm going to dyno the the three options i have to see what puts me where. then which ever gets me the most... i will then dyno the airaid vs. K&N w/ airbox mod.

Thanks for the information. I think I will wait for a while and grab a gibson. As you know V6 F150s are quiet stock and I want mine to sound like a V8.

then go buy a v8. the glasspack is the only thing that makes the v6 sounds like a v8... ESpecially at idle. the glasspack has the loudes idle of all. remember... i'm used to straight headers without cats and cats w/ dumped right after y pipe. the glasspack is a great buy, but i want the loudest setup possible, so i go headers!

With my setup(dual in dual out flowmaster with dumps) my truck sounds very much like a very lightly modified 5 liter with say dynomax mufflers or most like a stock 4 valver 4.6. I think a lot of it has to do with my intake mods as well as the extra timing my chip has dialed in. I lowered my idle speed 200 RPMS(with no MIL suprise!) and Ihave to admit my truck sounds like a million bucks, I was expecting the raunchy V6 sound but all through the range it sounds very nice and when I get on it it howls like a whipped dog, only a lot meaner...I've also noticed that this thing revs like it has a lightened crang/flywheel/clutch, it truly sounds MEAN. The only thing that I think it sounds most alike would have to be a DOHC mod motor.(except of course when you slap I nice set of mufflers on the DOHC and then they just sound terrifying)
