Rattleing shifter fixed!!!
I was determined to fix that annoying rattle at what ever cost,(Just as long as I didn't have to pay money to someone to fix it.)
My tools were orginized and I was ready to drive my truck up on some ramps in my driveway so I could crawl under it and get to work. But first one final inspection inside the cab before I go under! During the final inspection inside the cab, I examined the complete shifter from the floor to the tip top of the mechanism and shook it around a bit. A closer look at my after market carbon fiber shift **** revealed a loose grub screw. I proceeded to tighten up the grub screw with the proper size allen wrench and walluh, no more annoying rattle! A quick 20 mile round trip test drive to the next city proved everything A OK. Now just the sweet purr of my flowmaster exaust is heard.
It came as a surprise to me since that shift **** has been on for the last 20,000 miles. But if some of your trucks out there rattle through the shifter, I don't think that is normal because mine is as quiet as can be. So good luck to you guys out there in your quest for a silent manual shifter. ( PS, You can always play the stereo louder than the rattle!) Markm

I've noticed that on my shifter ****, the middle of it where the gear selection illustration(1234od), sometimes moves around in a circle. Sometimes after driving it, it is completley upside down. Could there be a loose screw in there? If so how do you get to it?
If it's the stock shifter **** then there isn't any screws. The stock **** is a push on pull off type. Maybe for some reason your **** does not fit tight like it should. Grab hold of it tightly and pull it off, straight up. Then maybe try some silicone in the **** and push it back on and let it dry. Or buy a custom **** at your auto parts store. Let me know what you did. Markm

shift pattern button thing
Wolverine,
The little plastic disc with the shift pattern on it only gets worse with age. There are no screws; it is held in place by the vinyl around it, which wears out.
It (shift pattern disc) can be pryed out carefully with a pocket knife, then use some adhesive (liquid nails, etc) before you reinstall the disc. This worked on my friends truck.....
