Question Question: 2002 V6 Horsepower

I have a '99 4.6 V8, so I'm kind of out of touch with what Ford is offering on the newest trucks. But, I know a couple of years ago the V6 and V8 were only 5 hp apart.

What are they quoting for the 2002 V6 and 4.6 V8?

I don't think any of the specs have changed.

Engine displacement: 4.2L
Engine horsepower: 202hp @ 4800RPM
Engine torque: 252ft.lbs. @ 3400RPM

Engine displacement: 4.6L
Engine horsepower: 231hp @ 4750RPM
Engine torque: 293ft.lbs. @ 3500RPM

Although the #'s are fairly close, you can definately feel that the V8 has less trouble moving everything along.

I just bought a 2002 V-6, and those numbers are right on the money. I don't tow over 3000 lbs so 252 ft/lbs of torque is plenty...and going from a Nissan w/170hp V-6, I feel my F-150 with 202 HP has plenty of get up and go!

I know others really favor the V-8, but it boils down to what I use my truck for and the V-6 can do what I ask of it...and is saved me 1200 bucks over the V-8

Well I could have gotten a V6 for what I use my truck for but I went ahead and got the V8 because I'm a V8 kind of guy and like the extra power of the V8 plus I got the cool Triton V8 emblems on my front fenders.

I had a 98 4.2 that was supposed to have 205 h.p. My 2001 has 202 h.p. I doubt anyone can feel a drop of 3 horses, but why did it go down?

I am willing to bet after you start moding your V6 the money you will have spent would have bought you that big V8

Heavily fined! I like it!

Since I haven't modded in a while, I'm gonna go tape a coffee maker to the hood of my truck. (I wish it would warm up so I could put my headers on. )

Unfortunately though:

(cost of) V6 + mods(hp/tq) = V8 + mods(hp/tq) = $$$$$$$$$$$$

Whereas

V6 + mods = V8 = $0
