if it was a evap leak in a vapor line or the tank. it should turn on the check engine light for a evap code. poss.you have a pressure line leak. you need to have it checked. you can have a fuel leak and not see any on the ground. have it checked out soon. the evap sys. will vent at the very rear of the truck above the spare. and you should not smell it at all.

Thanks Wino,
thats exactly what happened(check engine light came on).It comes and goes.I havent had fumes for a while. When the light went out on its own I ignored it.I'm only reading your response 4 months later. Its April now(snowed here on L.I. 10 days ago, today its 96).What are the negative possibilities? All sorts of strange things have been happening this winter. When driver door closes interior light delays before shutting off.I dont have such an option on my XL and never happened 1st 5 years I had it.A gallon of coolant disappeared without a trace. Not on my driveway ,not in my oil(no white stuff).Runs fine ,Ive always babied it.I'm afraid totake it to Ford cause they always try to hose me.They refused to honor the timing cover recall cause I showed up 2 weeks late with it.My local mechanic is a good guy.Is this something he should be able to handle?Or is this something I can handle?I dont have computer diagnostic but I do know my way arround a wrench.......Thanks Bud
