service engine light
service engine light
Hello everyone!! I am brand new to this forum and am the proud
owner of the Ford listed below. I have a question to ask. Just recently, my "service engine soon" light just came on. It doesn't
blink, like I've read some of the other member's vehicles have done, but stays on solid at all times. There is also no change in driveablilty. It has just a shade over 15,000. It still drives great , no noticeable difference whatsoever. I have heard it could be my O2 sensors. Is this possible. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!

The check engine light can come on from just about anything, so your description can be very vague . Usually, if you add a fuel injector cleaner or other fuel additives it will come on. The computer is designed to determone any changes in the system and this might be the case. The O2 sensors shouldn't need to be changed for about 100k miles, even with hard off -roading. The easiest way to get the light to go off, is to disconnect the battery. The battery will then read any malfunctions in the system. If the light does come back on,once you reconnect the battery, then I would start to look for loose wires, gas cap loose (believe it or not), and other moinr things. Basically, with this new of a vehicle, you should look for the simple things that aren't supposed to be, first. That's the best I can do.
Yeah, the gas cap and plug wires are the two main causes of MIL on the f150's. my check engine light stays on for days at a time becuase I get tired of resetting it. My gas cap seal is pretty fubar and it doesn't always seal it up. Plus I got one the other day that freaked me out. My truck started missing really bad at about 95 mph on the turnpike. I thought that all this nitrous had finally caught up wit hme, but further inspection amid rush hour on a 70 MPH hiway(real fun...) I found #5 wire melted to the header so I popped and old wire on from my wonderfull box of "just in-case parts" and went on my merry way with a freaking MIL. A reset later and all is wonderfull in effieville.
Yes it is, thank god. I'm going to take it into Ford first thing monday morning. I've just been worried about the possiblities of what could be wrong. I know they'll take care of me though. Thanks for asking!
