Oil Pressure

Howdy everyone,

Well, I just installed an autometer mechanical oil pressure gage on my truck and once it warms up, it reads around 40 psi at idle. Does this seem a little high? What should the oil pressure be for an average engine?

thanks,
Doug

40 PSI for the 4.2L is correct

The 4.6L & 5.4L are a bit lower.

high oil pressure isnt a bad thing. maybe you're running thicker oil? anyway, 40 is fine.... i fly small planes and at idle they run (indicated - not necessarily accurate) around 60 psi (20w50 synth). (235 in. flat-4 pushrod air cooled). i'd be alot more worried about low oil pressure than high oil pressure....
