Today my truck failed me. Coming back from work, I stopped to get my mail. When coming back in the truck, it didn't started. When turning the key, everything electrical works, but I have all the possible error messages... tire air pressure, oil pressure, starting system fault etc etc... The only thing it does is a clicking sound in the fuse box inside the cab and also in the fuse box under the hood. I had to call a towing to bring my truck home a quarter mile away. Yep, fantastic.
I investigated the truck the best I could. It's not the keys, I canged batteries in both keys. Not the relay or fuse, I switched many on them with my owner's book help. Not the battery either. I try to jump start and it didn't work. I also unplugged it for 15 minutes to try a system reset. I hit the starter with a hammer a few time and it didn't started either.
During my investigation I discovered this.
And also this
In the middle of the picture if you look closely you will see oil.
So, for those of you with mechanical skills... What the F is this?
It may be unrelated with my current issue. It may only be the starter or something else and the truck will start... But these oil leaks are nonetheless concerning.
Or...Is my engine busted?
Can you please give me your insight ?
Truck is F150 FX4 Ecoboost 2013
Thanks in advance for those kind enough to help a fellow F150 owner.
The oil leaks are not a big concern unless you're losing a lot of it. The manual says check it often, so do that. My rule of thumb is if I can go fill up to fill up without needing oil, I'm good.
All three of my Ford trucks have minor oil leaks. Two are around the rear seal and two of them leak a little into the cylinders. It's enough to where they lose a quart about every 3,000-5,000 miles. They run well and do not smoke or have codes on them.
I check fluids, certain fuses, and tires every time I gas up.
