3.5 Ecoboost Turbo bad noise (impeller scrape or chirp)
Ok, hello and thanks for stopping in for a read. About 4 months ago I had a new noise on my 2016 F150 3.5 ecoboost, call it 65K miles, I've owned it since 40K. A couple of months into the new troubling noise I was persistent with my local dealership and they replaced the driver's side turbo under the 100K mile powertrain warranty. I looked under and over the hood as much as possible and the exterior of the driver's side turbo is very clean or new.
Onto the bad noise. It is a chirping noise, and sounds exactly like the impeller scraping on the housing and it happens mostly on start up and then for a few miles until the engine gets warm. I make a left hand turn out of my driveway in the morning and I have enough trees and stuff to get a good listen. I live out in the country and on a small slope, which is how I discovered the noise, pulled out in front a vehicle one day and went to 1/2 to 3/4 throttle in a hurry.
Yep I still hear it, the colder it is outside the longer the noise persists.
The dealership is one of many for this particular owner and does not have a good rep (found out after the fact, 1st hand).
Is this thing just going to blow or what?
