Unhappy 2011 Ecoboost 61,000 miles, cam phasers and timing chain ?

2011 F- 150 Lariat- Eco Boost 3.5 = 61,000 miles needs cam phasers and timing chain replacement according to dealer!
WT Heck. $ 2400 estimate to do job. Any thoughts on My predicament??

I’ve owned truck since day one and, was actually, able to watch it being assembled at the rouge plant cause, I worked there at the time.
Yes oil changes are on time with proper Ford recommended oil and filters, and done at the same dealership.
I purchased extended warranty on mechanicals in 2011 due to eco boost being a newer unproven motor at the time. Sadly warranty has expired do to passage of time, not excessive mileage.I am going to go ahead and have them do repair, but really grinds Me that I have to tear into motor with this low miles on it.

Depends on many factors...

How does it look? How much have you dumped in it since you've owned it, etc etc?

$2,400 might be cheaper than a new truck payment.

Sounds like it wasn't maintained properly - frequent oil changes with the correct oil are critical. Ecoboosts are really rough on oil, it breaks down quickly.

I had a 2014 3.5L EB with 65,000 miles and it had a similar problem......However, I kept having the engine light come on. Replaced 1. plugs and wires, then 2. Cat converter, then 3. O2 sensor, then 4. Timing chain, phasers and sprockets. #4 ended up being the fix. After several months and frustration and the local dealer calling Detroit for help, Ford told them to check the timing.....said if there were more than 5 cogs on the sprocket out of tolerance, then the timing chain is used up and needs all that replaced. Truck ran like a new one after that but I never trusted it so I traded it off. There is a lot of bad press out there about the 14's saying the timing chain was not built heavy enough to last. I believe I read that '15 is when they bulked up the chain. Hope this is not your issue but if it is maybe I've saved you a couple thousand dollars!

WOW! Changing a timing chain at 61k mls??!! Thats crazy. I got a 2011 lariat with over 216k mls. Never changed it. I have replaced the cat converters, both of them. Not too long either & I am getting a code again for the same issue. My truck is running sluggish but, never replaced the chain. Regular oil changes. Replace plugs at around every 60k mls. Replaced the wheel hubs and now the water pump recently. Reasonable for a high mileage truck.
