4.2 Build Up
4.2 Build Up
I AM HELLBENT ON MAKING A V6 ROCKET.FIRST OFF I NEED TO FIND A USED MOTOR BESIDES THE ONE I HAVE IN MY TRUCK.I WANT TO BUIL IT UP WITH FORGED PISTONS AND CONNECTING RODS,BETTER PUSH RODS AND LIFTERS ECT.BASICAL MAKEING IT BULLETPROOF.I WANT TO MAKE HANDLE MORE BOOST THAN 9PSI.I KNOW AUTONETS SUPERCHARGER CAN MAKE OVER 300HP CRANK WITH 9 PSI,BUT WHAT IF YOU COULD MAKE IT HANDLE 18PSI???YOU WOULD HAVE A ROCKET.I THINK THE 4.2 HAS LOTS OF POTENTIAL BUT NEEDS STRONGER PARTS.IF ANYONE HAS ANY TIPS OR SUGESTIONS THAT COULD HELP ME GET MY PROJECT OF THE GROUND,THAT WOULD BE GREAT.I GUESS FIRST OFF DOSE ANYONE KNOW BESIDES LOCAL SALVAGE YARD WHERE TO GET A USED 4.2 MOTOR.AND THEN MAYBEY WHERE TO GET SOME GOOD PISTONS FOR IT. THANKS GUYS!
sorry to do this but I gotta to contridict ya BJays, but I do think so!
I have been thinking this same thing about building the V6 and I have found ALL the needed parts. Forged pistions, cams, and other stuff. The intake will need to be extrude honed and the heads ported, but its all posiable.
The cam you can find at supersix motorsports, Redline Performance mustangs, or Morana Racing. Just be known that allthese cams are reground cams, not new cams. They will require new longer pushrods that all cam retailers will have for sale. The stock lifters will be more than good enough for the new cam.
Pistons and connecting rods can be found at Morana racing. they carry all three major types of pistions, Cast, Hypereutectic, and Forged.
Now if you want to run 18psi of boost Morana can even help you in that area with copper head gaskets, but I would suggest the "O" ring head gaskets they offer. Even copper gaskets can blow, but the "O" ring gaskets will not blow. you have a better chance of actuallyblowing the heads off the engine first, LOL. Also remember that the head unit in the autonet kit is a Vortech V-2 SQ which its maxium boost is 20 psi, but boost also depends alot on intake volume, the more intake volume the lower your true boost will be. If you extrude hone the upper and lower intake and port the heads you might never be able to see 18 psi of boost
Heck, Morana even has a 4.4 or 4.6 stroker kit for these engines and a windage tray.
