Need help please

I bought a 2003 Ford f150 XL sport its got v6 engine with 5 speed manual transmission the problem I'm having is the truck boggs down then will pick up speed again you can drive it for a while then it does the same thing but it does the same thing again and boggs down and dies but won't start back until it cools down I've replaced the fuel filter but others had said the fuel pump may be going out but when I took off the back line to the fuel filter gas sprayed out of it then was told its not fuel pump or it wouldn't of had that much pressure in the line. Then someone told me the Cat converters sounds like its stopped up if thats true would the service engine soon light come on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue with a small van from another manufacture (also a v6). After replacing the fuel pump and filter, it turned out to be some sort of a control module that connected to the distributor. I don't know what it was called or even if yours has one but the situation was exactly the same. In this little van, it had a small block with 2 wires under the district cap. If it's not too difficult to take a look, it might be worth it. It was a cheap part and easy to replace.

Go to the forum home page and scroll down. Post in either the V6 or the 1997-2003 forum. You posted in the Introduction forum.

I moved your post from the Introduction forum to the V6 forum. You don't need to start another thread.

Watching fuel spray out doesn't tell us anything. Why? Because you don't have any idea how much pressure that actually is. There is a lower limit to keep an engine firing and maybe that's not being reached at certain times.

No dizzy on a 4.2. It does sound like the coil packs are overheating and may be waving the white flag, though.
