K&N for 4.2

Does K&N make a FIPK for the v-6 4.2?

No i dont think they do. they make the drop in filter for it but if you want a full intake youll have to go with an Airaid or an Airforce 1 setup. Or if you want to save money you can just do the KN drop in filter and do the airbox mod that gives you an open air filter intake but uses the stock hose.

No the makers of those intakes for the v6 are Airaid and Airforce1. They just use the K&N air filter, im not sure if that was what he was looking for or if he wanted the the whole thing to be made by K&N but they only make intakes for the v8's. As for the air box mod what you do is you buy a drop in k&n filter which runs like 30-40 dollars. This is gonna be a summarized explanation of it so forgive me but what you do is you take the front of the airbox housing which holds the filter and cut it down to where it is just the ring that secures the filter to the rest of the intake tube and the two posts at the bottom that plug into the grommets to hold the filter up. When done this will give you and open airfilter that gets more air than being stuck in the plastic housing and will be similar to an aftermarket intake just without the straight aluminum tube. Hope this helps

I was actually looking for the k&n fipk, not just filter.

I don't think I want to cut up the airbox that I have now - has anyone here had luck with it? Much success? Can you tell the difference?

I really dont know. The people ive talked to who have done it say that its the same as putting an intake on your truck. Ive done it too and eventhough i havent had an intake on the truck i notice it alot more than just the stock filter. Plus when you get on it you can really hear it suck like an intake but if you dont want to cut up your airbox i would get an intake. Its your preference really, an intake looks nice and will probably net you a little more horsepower but you never really know.

I have made the air box mod to mine, but, I used the clamp on the airbox to hold only the filter and a tyrap to hold the remaining part of the air box. Click on my link and go to the photos page you'll see what I'm talking about. It really does work. I noticed a difference in how hard it pulls off the line.
