service engine soon???!!!!Help!!!
service engine soon???!!!!Help!!!
O.K. Gurus, I need some help. I was noticing some problems that I associated with my fuel filter and had it changed. On my way to the lube place it acted like I was barely going to make it. After I put the new filter on, I checked the old one and sure enough it was clogged. For a more detailed look I cut it open and the filter was coated with what looked like black carbon. Cutting through the filter I could see that it did it's job and seemed none of this got through. When I left the Lube place I had power again however noticed sort of a rough running engine. The next day my 'service engine soon' light come on. After thinking about it I removed the battery cable to allow the computer to recalibrate. This worked ad my truck began to run great and the service light went out. The following day the light came back on but the truck is still running great. I have never run any gas other than Texaco Premium, and have regularly kept my fluid maintenence using Amsoil, and nowRoyalPurple oil and transmission fluid. My spark plugs and wires were changed to Magnecore and Bosch PlatinumPlus4, aroun 40,000 miles. I bought this truck new and it now has 50,000 miles. Help!
I had the same problem however it turned out to be the air filter was not clamped correctly. Looked like the lube guys checked it but failed to put it back correctly. The truck ran fine but had the "check engine soon" light on. After pulling it apart and putting back correctly, I disconnected the negative terminal to recalibrate like you did and everything was okay. You may want to do an engine visual inspection for things like that or connectors that may not be seated correctly.
Mitchel,
thanks, I tried that too. I'm using an Airforce1 FIPK. I got frustraited and went down to an automotive shop. he guy put on a code detector and it came back with 'AC out of limits'. He selected delete codes and it went off. The next day it's back.
It's starting to drive me nuts. Anyone else got a suggestion?

boxman3, I just had the infamous SES light come on a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was from the Airaid FIPK I just installed so I put the OEM air cleaner back on but it still came back on. Had to take it to the dealership (mine is still under warentee). Turned out to be a fuel pressure sensor had gone bad. Dealer man replaced it and no more light. This never showed up in any of the codes. Put he FIPK back on and have had no more trouble.
Good luck.
Good luck.
This Service Engine Light soon thing drives me batty!!!! Im about ready to get the black tape out to cover it. It seems to happen to me with the gascap. When some "petroleum transfer engineer" ( gas station attendent) doensnt put the cap on right it goes on. I think that's what it is anyway. Ive taken it to a dealership twice and both times was charged 50 bucks to shut it off with no problems showing up on the diagnostics. Is it worth buying a tester. Just got an add form wrenchhead.com for one for $225..It is an OBD-II Scanner EZ-Link Kit by Auto Xray I'd be interested in someone's taje on the effectiveness of these diagnostic devices. Any advice would be appreciated
