Oil Smell
Oil Smell
We have a 2011 Platinum Eco. Purchased in October of 2011 to pull a 25' Airstream we have. Truck only has 3,100 miles on it as we have not had time to travel much. When I drive it around town, no issues - when towing the 6,000 pound trailer we get an oil smell from the engine compartment area?
It's going in to the dealer on Monday but thought I'd ask the question on here.
Thanks

Thats why I dont put 6 quarts in. To much oil. Check the dipstick. Ill bet it is over the line.
We have this discussion also on my Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe forum. They say 4 quarts ( on the Yamaha)and thats too much. Oil gets all in the intake and ozes out the overflow tube. We started running them low but not low enough for the oil light to come on. I just put 5 and a half quarts in the pikup.

Thanks, but I also noticed oil or carbon on the tail pipe. Will see what the techs say at the dealership. I have confidence in this dealer as over the years I have gotten a number of company vehicles through them and their service is better than most.
The dark soot on the tailpipe is common to all DI engines. It's not a problem, just the way it is.
