The whole purpose of the EB is for average guys that need a truck, to occasionally tow stuff and other wise just might be using the bed or may even be completely unloaded and drive it as a DD where the fuel economy benefit kicks in. You will never see the 3.5 EB in a SD truck, bc chances are if you have a SD you tow a lot more and you will get a diesel. Its all based on a need and desire so get what fits what your needs are, I think that's why we all have trucks, that why I bought mine, I was tired of borrowing.
Exactly, for the person who needs a truck that can pull a camper during the summer, still needs 4x4 and wants good gas mileage for the 80-90% of the time they are driving then the EB is a better option, if your towing all the time get the 6.7

I expect a ecoboosted 5.0 in the Powerstroke in the next year or so as the epa is starting to count 3/4 tons trucks toward CAFE. the 6.2 is a gas hog so it's worthless

X2 total domination.

I just heard the other day that the corvett is gonna get a TT V8 in a very small displacement (under 4.0 L) That would be great all the features of the EB and you still get the v8 rumble. Can't wait to see what will unfold.

That would be an animal but I have yet to see anything official on this, just a lot of rumors. I figure a perfect replacement for the 5.4 in the Shelbys. A great truck engine too, id guess a pretty pricey option.

I'm not so sure that will happen. The point of EB was to get a buyer the gas mileage of a small engine with the power of a large engine it replaced, V8 --> V6, V6--> I4 etc. A bi-turbo, DI 5.0 would be a monster but not help with the mileage figures too much.

What does make sense it so punch the 3.5 out to ~4.0. The 6.8L V10 had 362 hp/ 457 lb•ft. The 3.5L EB isn't too far off of this already. In a SD the turbos could be noisier and still be acceptable which should put it nearly equal. A little more displacement would put it over.

Maybe I should have said, you 'can't' get a 6.2 in a XL, reg cab, 2wd..

You are totally correct in respect to the 6.2. My point is - if you want an EB in a 2wd reg cab XL, you have to get a long bed with max tow. Otherwise, you are limited to the 3.7 or 5.0. This *IS* an Ecoboost thread, right?

I betcha that the EB in the 2wd reg cab, even with the long bed, would be a screamer - it would come with 3.73 gears because of the max tow package!

gotcha.. I was just talking about the OP trying to decide between the EB and the 6.2 and that "if" he wanted the 6.2 they were limited in what F150 it comes in..

Well I can say the numbers from the EB are impressive. They are very close to the Lighting numbers back in the day the lighting was rated at 360HP and 450 ft puonds then they upped the HP the last few years of the run to 380hp at the same torqe. It would be nice to see them offer the EB in a reg cab short box but of course that wont happen.

Yeah, the EB in a short bed regular cab would be lots of fun, probably make a few pony car owners mad looking at its taillights.
