LONE STAR STATE
any austin 4.2L owners?
Where can I find a superchip, MAF, or performance throttle body for a 4.2L in austin and are they all worth the money?
I am thinking of changing the rear end to 3.55 limited slip, but am wondering if I will lose highway speed. I do a lot of offroading around town so will probably inslall them anyways. Speaking of offroading, would an unrestricted filter system be a bad idea?

I grew up in Texas, and lived there for 17 years before I hauled myself off to Cali for college. Texas IS the best state, and I will live there as soon as I graduate. GIG-EM Aggies, make my family proud.
yep i know.... i've got alot of friends that like to drive big evil polluting trucks (though they all have chevies)
i just get sick of being told that i'm "wasteful" for driving a truck, espically when the person about whom i'm talking drives a '90 subaru justy, which was the last car sold in this country with a carb - it undoubtedly pollutes more than my truck... anyway, maybe i'm bitter, but i really love austin and its a million times better than that pit on highway 6!

not to put fuel on anybody's fire, but my being an outsider looking in, I can offer a different viewpoint on Aggieland.
My wife went to A&M, and I roomed with a couple fellow LTs who were in the corps while I was stationed at Ft. Hood, and I made quite a few trips to A&M on weekends. I have a few observations:
1. College Station is a close knit community of people who are different from anyone else on this planet. It is like an oasis of orange trees in an apple orchard.
2. Texans are fiercely proud of their state, and Aggies are doubly proud of both their state and their school. So much so, that they are maddening to anyone not in their 40,000 strong clique.
3. Being an Army guy, I liken Aggies to Marines. They are who they are, and they will never change. Then they can't understand why everyone puts them down. Their explanation - "they all jus' jelous."
4. The Corps of Cadets is just the worlds biggest fraternity, complete with it's own marching band. The difference is that freshman in this fraternity have rules like: no television, and no social life.
5. The Dixie Chicken is one of those very, very cool bars with even cooler beer (Shiner) prices, except it has one very big problem...sausage. The whole school is like 60% male, and this bar is probably 90%. Cheap beer+good food+good music - chicks = a good place to start the night, but a terrible place to wind up with beer goggles.
6. A&M has some of the best time-honored traditions, and any Aggies reading this must keep them up. They are one thing that is absolutely positively cool about A&M. Also, there has to be a bonfire every year, tree-hugging liberal Longhorns be damned.
7. Traits that are common to the couple hundred or so Aggies that I have ever met are: honest, arrogant, not big partiers - although they will tell you otherwise, stubborn, loyal, generally good people, and hard-working.
8. It is impressive that former Aggies keep up their school spirit, and continue to root for a team that is unbeatable at home, and wins more games than they loose consistantly every year, but is SO BORING.
9. Excellent school, with every major under the sun. Recreation, Parks, and Tourism is actually a major for Aggies.
This is not a knock on A&M, I love the place, had some great times there, and even married one of those great times. Also, I am a diehard Republican, so any place with a George Bush Library is cool in my book.

I have always wondered myself how anyone stumbles across an oldie such as this. I enjoy reading back what was going on then. Too, it's interesting how you can post now and it fits right in.
