Post mpg in midwest

I have the dubious honor of living in an area with the highest prices for gas in the country. However, I have noticed that since they went to the "summer blend" I have been getting better mpg. From what I understand, the summer blend is the ethynol blended gas that is supposed to burn cleaner, and helps reduce emissions. Atleast that is the "reason" for the higher prices.

Is it possible that this blend of gasoline produces better mpg? Anyone out there in the Midwest seeing these type of results? Anyone out there a chemist? Anyone out there work for an oil company? If so, I want some money back.

Through the winter I was getting 13-15.
After the weather broke, I was getting 15-17.
Now with the last two fill-ups, I have gotten 19.5 & 19.1. These totals are in complete and total city driving; when I get on the highway, or take a trip, I use my VW TDI. The mileage with the Diesel is 3x better than the truck.
