Post Superchip

After following threads on the message boards, and try to gather as much info as I could. I finally ordered a Superchip. The UPS truck showed up this morning and less then 1 hour later I was done.

Once everything was put back together, I went down to the gas station to top off my tank with premium. I immediately noticed the improvement in the off idle acceleration, and the hesitation problem at low RPM has gone away!!!! This is all while still running on 88 octane gas.

Can't wait to see what will happen when I get a full tank of premium into it.

Any second thoughts are long gone with just the drivability improvements.

Hi Stoob,

Glad you got the Superchip installed & thanks for your post! We're delighted to hear it's helping with your hesitation situation.

Actually, you placed your order on Friday, which normally means you would have received it on Monday, as UPS Red is standard overnight delivery during the week.

But we hate to see someone who orders something shipped UPS Red to have to wait the whole weekend until Monday, we wanted you to have it for the weekend, so we picked up the extra Saturday delivery charges to get it to you in time to play with it this weekend. Most people get around to installing stuff on the weekend, of course. Many areas don't even have Saturday delivery available, so we just got lucky on this one, basically!

One quick note and that is, you're lucky you didn't get any pinging (detonation) on that low-grade fuel. You already know to make sure and run it only on 92 or higher octane high-quality premium gas for your best results, both in terms of power gained and your gas mileage results.

What we suggest is to run it down at least until the low fuel light comes on, then fill it up with premium, don't "top off" a partial tank of regular with premium gas, as you'll just dilute the incoming premium gas that much more.

Have fun with your new Superchip,

im thinking about a chip and my question is do you have to use high grade gas? i really dont want to pay 1.89 for a gallon. being a full time student really hurts the wallet. then that means not so much budgeted for the truck fund. thaks for any responses

yeah you have to use high octane gas....except high octane in san diego is 2.02, but I believe the incresed cost is outweighed by the increased gas mileage....or its roughly the same. So you pay for for gas but use less of it.

Hi CrazedF1,

Yes, the single-program Superchip requires the use of premium, that is how the additional power is gained, by re-tuning the engine specifically for the use of premium gas.

However, we also have a 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, like "BlueV6" is using, which we can set up with one program for 87 octane, and then the other being our normal performance program for 92 octane, so you can switch fuels literally by just flipping the switch of the Flip Chip. The power gain on 87 is going to be small, maybe 3-5 hp or so, the real power gain comes when running on the premium gas program of course, but this would give you ultimate flexibility to run whatever level of fuel you want, and then run premium when you want maximum power.

If you'd like to go over any details, etc., please feel free to give us a call and we'll be happy to go over all the options with you, so you can give it some thought.
