Putting a tach in should be easy... I just got my truck about a month ago, but before that I had a 94 honda civic that my sister totaled (ended up being a good thing because it gave me an excuse to get the truck); anyway, about two weeks before she wrecked it i had put a tach in; it only took me about an hour - i kinda rigged it though. the only tough part was figureing out which wire coming out of the ignition box was the tach signal - i just guessed and was right... the lighting stuff i just jammed into the appropriate fuse on my fusebox (power wire - ignition switch fuse, backlighting - headlight fuse) and i grounded it on one of the driver's seat bolt. i dont see how it could be any harder on an f-150, especially considering how much more cramped the honda was. just get a manual to find out which wire is the tach. signal.

There is a post on the second or third page under the V6 Engine board thats labeled Tach.
Theres a guy who put in a 2 5/8 tach in his v6 and he wrote what color the tach signal wire was in the back of the instrument cluster but he didnt label the other ones but those are easy to do.
