4.10 gears and superchip
I have a 2000 V6. I just had a set of 4.10 gears installed and I have a superchip, but it is not calibrated for the new gears yet. The truck doesnt seem any quicker and shifts way early(I'm in overdrive at about 35 to 40 mph)My question is: Will the recalibrated chip fix the shift points so that the truck stays in its gear longer? Thus the motor can build up power before shifting into the next gear? Please help I just spent alot of money and dont have anything to show. Thanks for all and any replies.
On the speedo I am not sure but I think you haft to have it claibrated through your insterment pannel computer(a seperate computer that supposedly sits behind your dash).
Your shift points are due to your low 4.10 gears. It takes more RMPs of the motor to hold a constant speed with lower gears than it does with higher gears. You are still shifting at the same RPM you were shifting at but with the new gears your truck is just not going as fast at that RPM as it use to. Not to mention your gas milleage will plumit down beacuse of the gears.
Now your problem with feeling no increse in power is not warranted. There should be a very significant increse in the feel of your truck. The chip adds enough power to make a big diffrence by its self. The gears, well they dont really add power but they transfer more power to the ground then what was reaching the pavement before with the higher gears.
Hope this helps

You should feel some seat of the pants bit with the 4.10s. While it didnt give you more power its being applied differently to the ground than before. It should be a real kick in the pants....I got a chevy with 4.10s with 31 in tires and one almost identical with 3.43, and there is a huge difference. For bringing it back to normal....get bigger tires.

Hi Musick76,
Your second sentence says it all, your Superchip is not programmed for those 4.10 gears, so your upshfits are happening way too soon, the engine never gets a chance to show it's stuff.
This is pretty easy to correct, you just need to have a custom program done to take care of this. Just give us a shout if you'd like us to take care of this, our contact info is below. If we've already spoken about this, you'll have to forgive me, as with the screen names here on F-150 Online, we don't know who is who for most of them.
Hang in there & rest easy, this isn't a major problem.

I'm sorry but I don't have any advice to offer, I would like to ask you why and how much did you invest into your gears and chip? I have a 2000 2WD XLT with the 4.2 and I am pulling a new 3000 lbs boat (well, trying to). Up the ramp, I get an awful burnt clutch stench and can hear it crying, I haven't taken the boat back since. The truck has about a six inch lift on it and 315s. Please, if nothing else, just numbers so I can compare. Do you think that the 4.10 gears were to extreme?
Thanks
Carl
Thanks
Carl
Experts,
I have a 2000 2WD, 4.2 and a decent lift(don't know height, used). Running 315s and trying to tow a new SeaDoo (approx 2700-3000lbs). On the road, use 3rd for grades but when retrieving, need to ride clutch to keep RPMs up and end up with a burning clutch at the top of the hill. I have been advised to get a gear reduction to 4.11s to a V8. I wish I had the v8 but I don't so what is a good course of action please?
