I get about 15.9 mpg overall...
since getting a cat-back exhaust and filter I'm guilty of lead foot for sure, I like to hear the engine bark (needs more bite)

you should get a K&N air filter and a free flowing exhaust system.. that gave me the most improvements (gas mileage) for sure!

The thing with these V6 motors is they will get good gas mileage if you keep your foot out of it.I took my truck(y2k f150 sport 4x4 4.2L) on a 600 mile trip last summer.Cruising down the highway at 65mph I averaged 20 mpg. There were few hills to climb. These motors have all of the power above 2500rpm and unfortunately thats where the gas mileage starts to suckI also took my truck on several hunting trips this fall and averaged about 12 mpg(very steep, hilly BLM roads. The motor is supposed to b broke in and get its best gas mileage after 10k miles.

I have a 98 supercab V-6 with the 5-speed and I'm getting 15-16mpg in a combination of city and highway driving. If I get my foot into it much at all though, I'll drop to 14mpg quick. If I accelerate from stoplightes like everyone else, I'll get 14mpg. You have to accelerate slowly to get good mpg. Oh and I also have the steeper rear end in mine. Does that make much difference in the mileage? I drove a v6 with auto and I swear it took considerably less throttle for the same go power.

Stock I would get about 15.5 to low 16's on our lousy California fuel (low energy content) with a SC auto. With superchip and electric fan & airraid now I usually get about 17.5 - 18. IMO most of the gain is from the chip. BTW - somewhere between 70 and 75 mph the mileage drops way down. If I could keep it below 70 I know I could break 20 mpg highway only, but haven't managed to do that yet

Angry gas milage

I was wondering what the gas milage some of you guys get with the v6, I'm thinking mine is way below par but not too certain. I get about 13-14 in city and about 14-15 on the highway. Granted I'm a little heavy footed sometimes and I usually do about 80 or so on the freeway, but if I'm not mistaken, I should be getting at least 3 more mpg. I have a 2000 reg. bed reg. cab 5-speed v6 no mods. But I only have about 5500 miles on it. Should I wait until 10k miles to complain to the dealer? or should I bring it in? Thanks for any help.

Cool

I also have the 'DBD Syndrome' (Dirt Bike Dave) I cant keep it under 75+...well ok, 80+ to save my life!! My truck just rides so good, like I'm floating on a cloud. If I ever have to go 55 you might as well be driving a stake through my heart, b/c it feels like I am standing still. Anyway, my avg is about 15mpg, and that is for the most part doggin the crap out of it. Once I went up to northern VA to see the folks and made it 461 miles on 1 (uno, one) tank!!! Granted when I filled it up it took over 25 gallons (I fill it to the rim) but that was 18+mpg doing well over the SUGGESTED speed limit.
OK gentelman, lets face the truth here. The only reason MPG should come up is when you are talking your wife into letting you get this awsome beast! Other than that, as long as your mileage hasnt bottomed out, DONT WORRY ABOUT IT!!! This is a big BAD A$$ truck for cryin out loud! If you are really that concerned with mpg park your truck and get a beatter (metro, tercel, suzuki(sp?)) or something like that. There are certain things that you have to give up with any truck, and mpg is one of them.
All I'm saying is this, as long as it is performing, don't complain. It's bad for your heart and even worse for your trucks soul.

WOW!, Thanks a lot for all the replies. I guess I have been expecting a little too much from my truck, I still drive it like my maxima. God help me if I can somehow get myself to stay below 80 on the highway, That has just never been possible, esspecially the way this truck cruises. Anyway, maybe I'll try to lighten up on the pedal, and see how that goes...

Thanks.

I get about 15.5 to 16 mpg in the city and roughly 17 mpg on the open road. Not too bad for a supercab with a V6 and an automatic tranny. Anyway, this is my favorite vehicle that I've owned, so I don't worry too much about the mileage.

Before the superchip I averaged 14mpg winter/summer, city/hwy. After the chip I averaged 16-17mpg, but the engine pinged horribly. I've since pulled the chip and still get about 15-16 mpg. I didn't notice the mileage gains until I hit 20K.
