I also have a 97 F-150 w/4.2 and have had the same problem with the door ajar/dome light. I recently sprayed WD-40 in both door latches and has worked like a charm ever since. Be sure and spray plenty, until it runs out on the ground. Good luck!

Question Need Help on my 97 F-150

I have a 1997 F-150 Ext Cab with the 4.2. I bought it used about a month ago. It just went over 48,500 miles and the check engine light came on while I was driving down the road. It seems to run fine. Should I take it in to have it analyzed or is there something else I should check first?
Second problem I have is that periodically my Door Ajar light and audible alarm comes on and stays on even after the door is shut. This of course keeps my interior light on. It ussually lasts for a couple of miles driving down the road and then clicks off. I think its the switch on the drivers side. Would this be hard to get to to change? Any help with these problems would be appreciated.

I tried the WD-40 and that has seemed to work so far. Yesterday the Check Engine light reset on its on. Still don't know what caused it to come on. The only thing that I found was that my Radiator reservior was a little low. Filled it up and the next day the light went out. Don't think that would have caused it but maybe.
