Post A few new items for the V6

I haven't been checking out the post lately, but I want to know if there are any new of the following items for the V6s yet:
1) Headers
2) Mass Air-Flow Sensor
3) Gibson Exhaust (Complete Catback)
4) Jacobs Ignition

The Jacobs ignition kit I know nothing about. All I know is that is adds power, and if power is involved, I'm interested. What should I expect to pay for each of these items. I have some cash and am ready to go on a small truck performance parts shopping spree.

Any response will be greately appreciated.
Thank You

Talking

1-Headers-As far as I know JBA is coming out with headers at the end of January(I think), but it's already the 25th day of the month.

2-Mass Air-Flow Sensor-I thought they made one, at least in my performance catalog, Granatelli has one. Don't know much about only it adds about 10-15 horses. These go for $270.

3-Gibson exhaust-This depending on if you go with stainless or not will run you anywhere from $200-$500. These are just ballpark numbers from these boards on what people paid. Never actually quoted myself.

4-Jacobs-Nice investment for your truck including price. For our trucks(I'm assuming you have a 4.2L since you posted in the v6 forum) it's $400, and don't know how noticeable the hp gains are.

Anyways hope this helps you. Good luck with everything.

here's what JBA told me on the 1st of Jan 2001:

We plan to build these headers as regular production items sometime in
the
next several months. Please feel free to check back with us for a
status
report. Thanks for your interest in JBA Headers, we welcome any future
questions or comments.

Also, i've been reading about what headers will actually do and if they are going to make a diffrence in our 4.2's
The general concensus is to get headers if the engine is blown, if not, the headaches and problems that come with the install and performance (leaks, backpressure) make it not worth the $$$. Take a look at the prices for the 4.6, gonna be similar to that. Take a look over in the Engines section and do a search on "headers" and read some of the feedback ..

just some food for thought

From my understanding of headers for our v-6, they will help (supercharged or not). OUr motor is almost identical to the 3.8 v-6 mustang motor. They add something like 15 hp to them and I would expect the same from headers made for the 4.2.When a supercharger is involved, any mod that will help increase air flow helps more.If you have lots of cash to spend, I suggest going to www.supersixmotorsports.com and ordering a 4.2l power pack.It is supposed put the hp around 240. All it is is our parts that have been ported and polished(upper&lower intakes) and some work done on the heads as well.A cam is also included. They told me that with these mods and a custom burned chip I could achieve 270- 280 hp.
Add a blower and headers to that and you are looking at around 380hp out of a v-6.If the hp gets above 300 you will also need to upgrade to 24 lb injectors.Another thing to keep in mind is that with that much power a bulletproof transmission will be required.

"bulletproof trans" LOL!!

you got that right bro!!

I did a search for "headers" on the engine section and the exhaust section and most 4.6 and 5.4 owners said the diffrence of power after installing the headers was not noticeable enough or big enough to warrant spending the $$$$

guess ya gotta take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt

Hey everyone, thanks so far for the posts.

Split, thanks for the detailed info! Since the headers aren't around, I'll take your advice and spend my money now on an ignition kit since that's out. One thing though, I've now heard of MSD Ignition. What should I consider; Jacobs or MSD? I think I know that they sell kits complete or parts from them individually. Can anyone tell me what I need to go in the store and ask for? Whatever is best for my V6 4.2L. Thanks guys!

LightningCrashz, where is the 4.2L power pack? All I can find is the Ford Ranger power pack and the 3.8 L Power pack. Thanks

Charles F, what you have to do is go there - www.supersixmotorsports.com and ask them(email) about performance parts for a 4.2.They don't advertise these parts but they will do a package for you.Look at the 3.8 powerpack, the only thing on it that is different is the upper intake As some of you already know, the blocks on the 3.8 and 4.2 are almost identical.Making alot of things interchangeable. Some of the v-6 owners are using 4.2 parts on their 3.8 to get better performance out of it. This is why supersix has 4.2 parts. At first glance they look pricey but remember part of the cost is a refundable core charge.
I also just remebered something else. I think Gaston @ v6power.com fabbed up a throttle body or 2 that fit the 4.2( he is using 4.2 upperintakes on his 3.8) .So you might want to head over there and ask him about it.

i just installed one of the gibson dual exhaust system on my 2000 2wd short bed. it is aluminized paid $329 and installed myself. it took me the good portion of the day to install (no excess to a lift)and some cutting and fine tuning were needed to make it lay correctly. it sounds awesome, good tone, rather mellow but certainly not obnoxious. it will never sound like a V8, but then who here wants one of them when we got the incredible 4.2

Mods are k+n filter, ford/duraliner bedliner, wet okole seat covers, extang classic platinum tonneau cover, and gibson dual exhaust. Future plans include a poweraid throttle body spacer, superchip flipchip, headers, and possibly a supercharger.
