Red face what to do at 5000 miles?

what do are we supposed to do to our trucks at 5000 miles? i thought we change the oil every 3000 but in the manuell it says 5000. when do i replace the air filter. i am gonna go with a fipk. don't know which kind yet. i need to know because i am at 5000 now. one last thing, i couldn't find 5w 20 so i put in 5w 30. i have been using it for the last almost 2000 miles. can it do any harm to my truck. thanks a lot!

I would definately go with what the manual states. It also has a place for you to ck off the service that was performed. If you decide to do it yourself, keep all of your receipts. There are other posts about owners having problems with Ford covering parts when you didn't have the oil changed at the dealer, because you can't "prove" the work has been done. I would keep the receipts in the appropriate page with the mileage written on it also. But, you can always contact your local dealer and see what they say needs to be done. I believe the air filter is replaced at 12k unless you live in a rural area with alot of dirt roads.

I agree with the previous poster, except on the air filter part.Change that when it gets dirty.I seem to remember that on my 98 it didn't need changing until around 25,000 miles.

i'm at 4927 miles on my 00 w/v6 and i'm taking it in to the dealer for a complete checkover, just to make sure everything is ok. i've been driving it very hard (i'm 18) and i figured every 5k miles and do a complete inspection that everything will be ok. not needed but its fail safe

i hear a whining noise when i coast in drive with no gas, i think its my driveshaft but it might be my tranny, who knows what happens when you hammer the gas in nuetral till it gets to 3k rpm and then pop in into first... (tis tis, i know)

Cool

hey dude, if thats the case then you should have gotten the 5-spd. the only thing is if you shift too fast it will grind.

Exclamation

If it's your first oil change do it at 1500 miles because it is new and there will be more metal particles forming because the engine is breaking in and it isn't always a perfect fit!
