what you herd was true, the 4.2L is just a stroked version of the 3.8L. The recall I beleive was for the timing cover of the 97 3.8,4.2 V6 engines. Since you have A 98 your truck should not be included in the recall.

I was posting on the pickup truck board and one of the posters suggested I check up on the front cover recall of the 4.2 as he said it was an evolved 3.8. I checked the recalls on this site but found nothing, was he mistaken or is there such a recall? I've been quite happy with my truck, only things replaced were the back brakes and muffler and both under warranty 98F150 4.2 5spd 3.86 gears reg cab 4X2 toreador red

 

I got a 97 and I didnt hear nothin.......yet.

Yes, I got the notice and mine was already coolant. I took it in and they replaced the gasket and that fixed it. Now it leaks oil.
