Post getting up hills

patricjp,
Try using premium gas. It's all I'll run with, and it's worth the extra. Belive me, I drove mine up Pikes Peak all summer for the hill climb all the way to 14,000 ft. Even got sideways around a few corners.

Question

So your saying that it took you all summer to get to the top. seriously though. These trucks will do fine on any grade as long as the rpms are kept above 2500 man 14,000 feet is way up there. How much power loss did you notice up there, with the air being so thin?

Thumbs up

hehe yeah, I guess what really got to me was my Girlfriend calling my 4.2 a DOG up hills.. (which is kinda true unless you get up over 2500 then we start movin)!
So anyway, She has a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition and now I'm determined to beat her!! heh, or at least try

I plan on doing the superchip as soon as I change my tranny fluid =)
hopefully that'll be the extra kick I need

as far as the premium gas is concerned, I tried a full tank and noticed no diffrence at all. I read somewhere on these boards it would help gas mileage but that was not the case at all! The reason for this is because the stock chip is programmed for 87 octance and increasing that rating is not gonna give you any kinda results unless your timing is set to combust quicker for the higher octane.. i.e.(92,93) i even tried getting on it several times just to see if there was any "kick" and there was nothing and I dropped my mpg by 1-2

be back soon with my superchip results!!
btw, I get 15.9 overall mpg now

There are a lot of turns, around 160 to the top. As far as power loss I didn't notice much, but there was some. I hope to run the Pikes Peak Hill Climb with my F-150, someday.
